PUNCH

Croisé (crah-ZAY): A cross (punch thrown with the rear hand) used to attack an opponent. The fist rotates so that the back of the hand is horizontal. Generally stronger than a direct.

Croisé Tête (crah-ZAY tet): A croisé aimed at the opponent's head.

Direct (dee-RECT): A jab (punch thrown with the lead hand) used to probe an opponent's defenses. The fist rotates so that the back of the hand is horizontal. Generally weaker than a croisé.

Swing (swing): Essentially a croisé, but ending with the fist rotating so that the back of the hand faces the opponent and the puncher's entire body moving towards the side opposite the punching arm in a décalage. The body also rotates at the hip. This results in the back of the puncher's fist striking the side of the opponent's head.
